Experience
Sunrise from our door
Step out before dawn and walk a few minutes up to the Sarangkot viewpoint, about 390 m from the lodge, as first light reaches the Annapurna range.
- Distance
- About 390 m from the lodge
- Best time
- Before sunrise, on a clear morning

Staying with us, sunrise needs no taxi and no 4 AM alarm. The Sarangkot viewpoint, at 1,592 m, is about 390 m from the lodge, a few minutes' walk up the path. Set off in the dark with a headtorch, and be there 30–40 minutes before sunrise to see the summits turn pink and gold before the sun clears the hills.
Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) stands almost due north, about 27 km away, with the Annapurnas either side of it. If you would rather not climb, the Attic's veranda and Kausi East's terrace face the mountains and the sunrise. On a clear evening the sunset is worth the walk too.
In spring, haze can hide the peaks.
